Hotmail and 16 characters

Hotmail

Recently when I tried Empathy i saw that i was unable to log into my Hotmail account.
I tried a lot of those tips and tricks that were posted, but none solved my problem. So I left it like that and went back to my trusted Pidgin.

A few days later when I tried to configure Thunderbird with my Hotmail account, I faced the same problem again.
Determined to solve the problem this time I started searching around the net for answers.

After a lot of trolling I found a response on Windows Live Help

The most shocking part was

if your new password is more than 16 characters, I suggest that you change it to less than 16 characters to help fix the issue. Once done, try to access your account in your e-mails clients again

I tried the above remedy and lo  … it worked!!!

I was able to access my mail from Thunderbird and also use Empathy.

This left me with one big question in my mind:
How come a software giant like Microsoft keep such a thing as the password being limited to less than 16 characters?? :upset:

If you do have any answers then do share the same here… :)
